Each spring, as their rental lease renewal loomed, my sweet buyer clients and I would embark on a frantic search for “the one.” For two consecutive years, time ran out, options dwindled, and they found themselves renewing their lease, postponing their dream.
But this year, there was a new resolve. We started early, making a pact: no matter what, this was the year they would buy their dream home. The Hampton Roads market moves fast, and great listings vanish quickly. So, we hit the streets almost every day, chasing every promising lead. It was a grind, and despite my constant encouragement, I could see the defeat creeping into their eyes. That’s when I reminded them to “speak victory” over their situation, to truly believe that something amazing was waiting for them. Because sometimes, faith is the most powerful strategy.
And then, it happened. A new listing popped up, and we moved like lightning. We were the very first ones there, actually beating the agent who was still installing the lockbox! I arrived, and soon the wife met me, her husband on FaceTime as we walked through the home. It was a single-family home in a beautiful area, with a park right beyond the back fence—a perfect, private backyard for the kids and her cherished organic garden. They loved it. The character, the space, the potential for their family to truly thrive.
That night, we strategized. We poured over the offer, fine-tuning every detail, working well past 10 PM. The dedication paid off: my sweet buyers got the house! They were over the moon, and honestly, so was I. The home inspection went smoothly, confirming their wise choice. Part of the negotiation included the seller staying until mid-June for their own PCS, a minor adjustment that worked out perfectly for everyone.
The official closing happened in early May, a triumphant milestone after years of searching. But the true magic, the real celebration, begins when they gain possession in mid-June. I have to confess, during the final walkthrough, I completely broke down. I’m such a sap for these moments! Seeing the culmination of their long, hard journey, filled with its share of highs and lows, brought me to tears of pure happiness for them.
I’m already bursting with excitement to give this amazing family a special surprise when they finally get the keys and step into their new life. Moments like these make every challenge worth it. I guess God knew what he was doing when he led me to jump off the cliff of security and into real estate nearly 26 years ago. I truly live for moments like these. Did I mention the wife told me, “This is our dream home”? My heart just melted.
Here’s to a dream come true!
